Where is Durmstrang located?

JKR never really specified where Durmstrang was located. Hogwarts, we know is in Scotland, Beauxbatons in France, but Durmstrang's location remains a mystery.

Though, Durmstrang is a castle in Northern Europe, we know that much to say the least. It's so far north though, that the days are very short in the winter.

 Skin Request
« Result #3 on Oct 27, 2005, 9:32pm »

If you have a skin - template for the site - idea, and would like to see it become a reality possibly, then please reply with your idea. Now, we don't accept all ideas, but you never know. If I like it enough, I'll consider it - though, please don't ask for a certain image for a logo, I usually make all my own logos, so that I don't have to worry about people saying that I've stolen their work, and that way it'll be me saying whether some idiot's stolen my work.

Though, if you have maybe color suggestions - I usually work with differant shades of two colors, like black and blue; black and gray; white and blue, such and such - or theme suggestions, I'll take them into consideration and get back to you on it.

Don't ask for any house skins though, I'm working my best to get them up - and if you don't like them, and want a better version, well, just deal with them how they are, I'm doing the best I can.

Skins for every single professor, however, may be a little bit over the top so you know, that'd be a lot of professors to make skins for, and I just don't have the time. I might, eventually, if many of the professors wish it, make skins for each of them, but I'm still in doubt that that'll happen ever.

Rules - Subject to change any time.
« Result #4 on Oct 27, 2005, 9:18pm »

Read 'em and weep baby! Nah, just kidding. But you have to read these.

-Durmstrang Institute Rules-

1] Everyone. And I mean Everyone, including the admins, must write a character profile. This is the ONLY way to get accepted. Only when I modify your post with "ACCEPTED!" at the top and I have changed your position, may you post!

2] No power playing! Trust me, It's not fun to walk away from your computer to get some food and return an hour later to find that another member has killed you! You are not all powerful, learn this statement...make your role-playing realistic, saying that you’re the smartest person in the world, and saying you control everything even if your only like 11...seriously people...no god moding, no power playing, if I find you do this, you will be banned.

3] Correct English and punctuation are a must! "I wanna shw u sumthin in da oder room!" Can you read that? Yeah, neither can I! It's alright if you change how they speak and let them say something like "There's somethin’ really cool in the other room I wanna show ya!." That is acceptable for speech, and speech only. When showing action it can't be like this:

'I take Jen's hand and run into the next room.'

That is unacceptable. Please write your posts in THIRD PERSON PAST TENSE, meaning like this:

'She grabbed Jen's hand and ran into the next room.'

If you need examples of third person, you can PM, email, or IM me, and I will show you a better and fuller example then just one sentence (probably just one of my old posts that I think is generally alright).

4] Normally I have a rule about how many character's one may have but we all know that I have never ever kept this rule. So you may have as many as you want as long as you post regularly as ALL of them. If one of the Admin team sees you slacking they will ask you to pick your favorite and delete the rest.

5] When asked to give your characters blood-line you may say one of the following ONLY if you PM me first and ask me about whether you can or not! Werewolf, Veela or Vampire. But please, Save the Elvish blood-lines for the LoTR sites! This, my friend, is Harry Freaking Potter! All characters should be BASED ON HARRY POTTER! No freaking Anne Rice characters—yes, I have seen someone around on one HP site parading around as Lestat—no game characters—mentionably like say, Final Fantasy, yah, saw another person parading around on an HP site as a character from Final Fantasy—if it’s not Harry Potter world based, then forget it. Also, like the movies, NO AMERICANS! Got it...? If you have a question about what’s Harry Potter based and what’s not, either ask me, or go to the -Harry Potter Lexicon-.

6] When asked to give a role-playing example in your application, you must do so as that character! At the end of the application you must also type Kitty.

7] The penalties for breaking these rules are severe! Anything form Banning to Probation can be a punishment! Believe me; I am so not above it!

8] I do expect that if you are not accepted, that you will NOT send me a million messages asking why you didn’t get accepted, and trying to explain that you should be accepted, and all that type of stuff. This will cause you to be banned from the site, I don’t care how good you think you may be.

I’m not trying to be mean if I don't accept you, I seriously am not. I want to make sure this site is good, and if you are not accepted for some reason, well, don’t blame me, just fix the problem, and resubmit it. I’ll see if you’ve fixed it, and then if there is still a problem, I’ll tell you that, and all you have to do is fix it. Don’t get mad; don’t get angry, just fix it, and I’ll see about accepting you.

9] After registering, you have six weeks to submit your character's bio. If you do not by the end of six weeks, then your account will be deleted. If you insist on signing up again, only to not create a character bio once again, you will be banned.

10] You are NOT allowed to post anything while waiting to be accepted UNLESS it is a QUESTION. If you do otherwise, you risk suspension, and then banning if you insist on doing it again when you have not been accepted, nor sorted.

12] No net speak! I know number four on this list is basically the same, but I'm saying it agian, to make sure you listen. This rule goes for both IN CHARACTER POSTS and OUT OF CHARACTER POSTS! I'm sorry if it's quicker, but get used of not doing it. In the chat board, you'd think I'd allow it, but no, I'm not. Only in private messages if you want to I guess, otherwise, it is not allowed.

This is a serious site, for serious Role-Players and Role-Players willing to learn. We won't accept silliness unless it's your character that’s a troublemaker/immature/etc/whatever. But please, be mature about this. People, in out of character mostly, who I get two or three complaints about, well you’re facing probation and possibly banning, depending on how serious.

If you want to join this site you will need a detailed application. I don't expect one short little paragraph for the history, and two sentences for physical & personality description, and role-playing example. We expect a good few paragraphs (at least two paragraphs) for at least the history and role-playing example. For the Personality and Physical descriptions, at least 3 lines (lines, not sentences), okay? People that give like little brief statements...well it makes me just want to know reasons, details about certain events. Like say your character was orphaned, why? Why they'd become an orphan? Or if they hate their parents, well why do they hate their parents? Why? That’s one question that comes into my mind a lot. Maybe you could try and actually answer these questions that might come to a persons mind, so that you don’t have to explain it later on to them if they ask.

And to the people who just want to get it done and over with, forget it. You're not going to be accepted with a short and simple skimpy little application that tells me nothing about your character.

The rules are subject to change at any time.

Display Regulations - Subject to change any time.
« Result #7 on Oct 27, 2005, 9:08pm »

Display Regulations

-Avatars-

  • There's a limit with what you can do with avatars without putting them on the list, I know. At the moment, I AM allowing people to ask me to put their avatar - if bigger then 100 pixels by 100 pixels - on the list. Your avatar is limited to 150 pixels by 150 pixels maximum if you want it on the list, anything smaller is fine by me.

I do ask, though, that you try to keep your wanting to switch avatars to a limit if you want me to put them on the list. I don't feel like changing them hourly for you. I mean, I have a life too. If you ask like once a month, or something like that, I'll probably be fine with it, but asking me everyday to put up a differant avatar for you...I just won't do it.

  • If you have a picture you would like to use, yet do not have a program to resize it with, you may ask me if you want to. I do have a program to crop and resize any picture you want.

  • I do not, however, search for an avatar/person for you. That's your job, not mine. I have to much work to do to be able to search for every little thing you want.

If you want perhaps a list of sites to go to for avatars/pictures, PM me, and I'll give you all the sites that I usually go to to get pictures.

  • Animated avatars are not allowed.

-Banners-

  • I am allowing banners for the time being. If you have a banner, the height can be no more then 150 pixels, the width, no more then 500 pixels. If it is over this limit, I will take it out of your signature, and your account(s) will be suspended for 3 days.

-Display Names and Profile Information-

  • Display names - like one of my characters here is Viorica Tereza Radulescu, you can edit your display name in your profile - must be actual names. Something like...say: _Xx_lily_xX anything of that type, that is not an actual FIRST NAME, and LAST NAME, is not allowed. You can get your account frozen if you don't change it after registering to the name of your character.

So you know, all names must be original, as all characters are supposed to be original. No cannons (characters from the books), or cannons relatives are allowed.

  • It is also asked that you enter your REAL age in your profile, and keep it hidden. The reason being keeping it hidden is only the staff can see it, and your character may be older, or even younger then you, but we do have to make sure that you are at least 13 [If you are younger then 13, then please register your age to 13 ne'ertheless].

  • Location in Profile: Please keep it to where your character is, not you. You may leave the location blank though. We don't want anyone to have to get hurt because they revealed where they live...that is, unless you don't mind revealing your location. If you're fine with it, then go ahead, it's not like I'm gonna stop you.

  • Gender in profile: should be the gender of your character, not yourself. For example, if you're a girl, and you have a guy character, are you really going to parade around which your gender set to female? Despite the fact you're playing a guy?

-Other-

  • NO COLORED TEXT! Simple as that. We have skins on the board, so that means not everyone will be having the same one as you...colored text would just make it harder on everyone.

  • Strike-through, italics, underlines, boldings, and marquees are allowed, and so is different size texts. I do not, however, wish for you to make the text too big, if you do, then it will be resized down to a smaller text size.
